State Route 8 Elma Rest Area closes next week for annual maintenance

In advance of the busy summer travel season, Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will temporarily close the Elma Safety Rest Area off eastbound State Route 8 for annual maintenance and repairs over two days next week.

From 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, crews will close the site’s restrooms and grounds to complete several maintenance projects, including removing hazard trees. The nearest rest area is the Scatter Creek Rest Area off northbound Interstate 5 north of Centralia.
