The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Deaprtment yesterday arrested a 24 year old Oakville man on outstanding Felony warrants. The subject was also wanted by the Department of Corrections. Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate tells us they have been trying to arrest this subject for the last few days and unsuccessfully attempted the day before on Moore Road near Satsop. This subject is a known runner and K-9 had been called in to assist with that attempt with negative results. Last night at approximately 7:30 pm, deputies with GHCSO, including our K-9 Deputy Tracy Gay and his partner Max, and officers from Elma and McCleary PD made contact at a residence on W. Anderson Street in Elma regarding a possible citing of the suspect. The man attempted to flee out the residence and jumped a fence. A deputy had initial contact with the suspect however he was able to evade arrest at that point. K-9 Max then made contact with the suspect however the man was again able to free himself and flee toward a vacant residence. The suspect then entered this residence and ran up into the attic area. The suspect would not surrender after several requests so K-9 Max entered the attic and the suspect surrendered shortly thereafter.
The man was taken to Summit Pacific Hospital in Elma with minor injuries sustained from the scuffle with the deputy and K-9 Max, then transported to the county jail where he was booked on the warrants, and for resisting arrest. Elma PD is looking at charging the man for burglary for entering the vacant residence.
