Police Arrest Driver Attempting to Run From Collision With Hoquiam Home

The first officer at the scene of a wreck in Hoquiam yesterday arrested the fleeing driver. Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers reported extensive damage to the garage of a home that was hit by the man’s truck.

The wreck was reported just before 4 pm Wednesday afternoon in the 900 block of Broadway Ave. Witnesses said a red full-size Ford pickup was southbound at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate a curve and crashed into the garage.

Myers said it appeared the driver didn’t apply the brakes as the truck drifted off of the left-hand corner to the right. After the vehicle went off the roadway, it was launched through a ditch and into the corner of the garage.

The driver, whose license was suspended, was transported to Community Hospital for possible injuries; the passenger of the truck refused treatment.

The residents in the home at the time were not injured.

The Hoquiam Fire Department reported extensive damage to the garage and a vehicle inside. The truck was pulled across the street but was unable to be driven due to extensive damage, it was impounded at the scene.
