A 32-year-old Montesano man is in custody this morning after a brief chase led officers all over Montesano and East Grays Harbor County. Officer Oconner with the Montesano Police Department said the chase began on Sylvia Street in Montesano at 1:50 am Friday morning after the driver of a GMC Jimmy spotted his patrol car and sped off.
The 15-minute chase led officers all over Montesano and onto the Monte Elma road. Speeds reached over 100 mph before and after the SUV turned around in a yard near Elma and headed back toward Montesano, as Officer Oconner coordinated spike strips with other jurisdictions.
The car drove through Montesano again before heading West on US Highway 12, speeds again reaching over 100 mph. Radio traffic indicates the vehicle may have blown a tire before it turned onto the West Wynoochee road where the driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers.
Oconner said the man was booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail on felony eluding, driving under the influence, and reckless driving charges.
