Officers observed the cougar just northeast of the fence line of the elementary school on the Weatherwax Property. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was advised of the sighting and will be responding to place snare traps in the area. The traps that will be set are designed to be non lethal and the goal is to relocate the cougar once captured.

The public is asked to comply with local ordinance and keep animals on leash. The public is reminded to always be aware of their surroundings, especially in wooded areas. Wildlife can often be found in Ocean Shores and interactions between people and animals can occur.
