Elma, Wash. - The Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a newborn child in Elma. Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate tells us Yesterday at approximately 2:45 pm E911 Dispatch received a 911 call from a residence in the 100 block of Newman Creek Road. The caller indicated her 37 year old sister was possibly having a miscarriage. Aid responded to the scene and transported the female to Capital Medical Center in Olympia.
At approximately 5:05 pm, Capital Medical Center relayed information to the dispatch center that the 37 year old female showed signs that she had already giving birth within the past 24 hours. Deputies and detectives responded to the residence and the hospital. The investigators eventually learned from the female that she had given birth at her home on Newman Creek Road in the early morning hours of September 9th. The female reported that the child was stillborn however was afraid to report it to 911. Detectives did located a deceased infant child inside the residence. At this time, the cause and manner of death are still under investigation. An autopsy is expected later today.
