SHELTON, Wash. -- A 20-year-old man drowned Sunday evening while swimming in Lake Cushman, he was later identified by the Mason County Medical Examiner as Kyle Austin Pape of Fox Island, Washington.
Detective Will Adam with the Mason County Sheriff's Office tells us late Sunday afternoon, they were advised of a possible drowning on the west side of Lake Cushman. A 20 year old male was last seen diving off of a diving board and never surfaced. According to the property owner and other guests attending a barbeque, the male had dived off of the diving board four previous times that day.

At 6:33 p.m., the young man was found 48 feet from the surface and brought up to the Fire District #18 Fire Boat where medics from Mason County Medic One were waiting, but the man was deceased.
The Mason County Coroner’s Office was able to contact the victim’s family and a positive identification was made. The young man was identified as 20 year old Kyle Austin Pape from Fox Island, WA.
A Mason County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain responded to the scene to aid and assist family and friends regarding this tragic incident.
