ABERDEEN, Wash. - At a recent meeting of the Aberdeen Rotary Club, Dee Anne Shaw, Administrative Assistant for the Aberdeen School District, was presented with the Friend of Aberdeen Rotary Award for her participation in the club’s annual dictionary project. This award recognizes those individuals who are not Rotarians but who share in the vision of Rotary.
In presenting the award, Aberdeen Rotary President Kurtis Dawson said, “Our Dictionary Project is an important community project and you only need to be in one of the classrooms on distribution day to see how much the students really appreciate what we do. Dee Anne has assisted us from the beginning of this project and has been key to its success.
Each year Dee Anne has been the liaison between Aberdeen Rotary and the district. She insures that an adequate number of dictionaries are ordered and that they are labeled, inventoried, and delivered to the schools. She then ensures that additional dictionaries are provided to absent students, each of the school libraries, and that every 4th grade teacher has at least one or two books for potential new students during the year. She has been an integral part of the success of the club’s annual Dictionary Project.
In an effort to improve reading ability and comprehension, the Aberdeen Rotary Club provides a dictionary to every fourth grade student in the Aberdeen School District, Cosmopolis and St. Mary’s.
