Central Park, WA - A standoff with a man in a Central Park home last night kept neighbors out of their homes until around 9 PM. County Undersheriff Dave Pimentel said the 54 year old was holding his wife at gunpoint when officers first responded to the Robin Hood trailer court off of Pioneer street around 5:30 last night. The man released his wife and barricaded himself in the home shortly after officers arrived at the small trailer court off of Highway 12 East of Aberdeen. Pimentel said Aberdeen, Hoquiam, State Patrol, Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Sheriff's Department, officers were on scene until a negotiator was able to talk the man out of the home. After a short struggle the man surrendered to officers, was taken to Community Hospital in Aberdeen for observation before being booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail on various charges.
Deputies responded to a reported Domestic situation at a residence in a mobile home park on Pioneer Road of Central Park (Aberdeen). The reporting party was a 56 year old female and advised that her 54 year old husband had threatened to shoot her after displaying a pistol. The female was able to flee the residence and met deputies at the nearby fire hall. Deputies learned that the subject was despondent and threatened to shoot anyone who attempted to arrest him. Numerous officers responded to the area to assist with containment. A few residents had been evacuated from the area of the suspect’s home. The assisting agencies included WSP, WSDFW, Hoquiam PD, Aberdeen PD, and Montesano PD. Crisis negotiators with the Sheriff’s Department were called in and eventually was able to communicate with the male suspect. During their initial communication with him, the suspect claimed to have a “directional bomb” in the residence. After nearly two hours of negotiating, the suspect first started to exit the back of his residence. When the arrest team started to move in the suspect retreated. A short time later, the suspect exited the front door to his residence and was arrested without incident. Reference the claim of a bomb, the suspect had initially considered igniting a fuel container however obviously did not. The suspect was booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail for Domestic Violence Assault 2nd Degree.
