WESTPORT, Wash. - On Thursday, November 29, Westport Winery was honored with a Silver Award at Seattle Business Magazine’s 2012 Washington Family Business of the Year dinner. The Roberts family along with their entire staff attended the awards ceremony in Seattle. In the acceptance speech Kim Roberts said, “Our success is built on four pillars: our family, our team, our community and our brand.”
For the Roberts family and their staff it was an additional honor to share the stage with outstanding family businesses from around the state. “There were businesses there that have been in existence longer than the state itself. It was so amazing to see several fourth and fifth generation families represented.” Canlis Restaurant earned a silver in the mid-size category and Oak Harbor Freight won the silver in the large business category.
Keynote speaker Michael Garvey, founder and chairman of Seattle-based Saltchuk Resources, told the audience of 240 attendees that perpetuating family involvement in a closely held enterprise is a noble calling that is essential to maintaining a viable economy. He also made a point of recognizing Westport Winery during his speech.
