Tall Ships Return to Grays Harbor June 25th, Lady Washington Marks 20th Anniversary

Lady Washington Launch 1989 : Photos of Lady Washington undergoing preparations for launch on March 7, 1989.Aberdeen - The brig Lady Washington, the Official Ship of the State of Washington, and her companion ship Hawaiian Chieftain return to their home port of Grays Harbor June 25 with a full schedule of sailings and public tours. The Lady Washington will also celebrate 20 years of changing people's lives with an anniversary party June 29 in Aberdeen.

The ships will welcome visitors for walk-on tours June 26, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and June 27, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Three-hour Battle Sails-recreations of a typical 18th century naval skirmish-are scheduled for June 27 and 28 at 2 p.m. A three-hour family-oriented Adventure Sail takes place June 28 at 10 a.m. For tickets, visit www.historicalseaport.org or call 800-200-5239.


 ghhsa_logoThe ships then transit to Aberdeen for the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Lady Washington's 20 years of service to the Grays Harbor community. The event takes place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday June 29 at Aberdeen Landing, 701 E. Heron St., Aberdeen. The event includes VIP tours of the ships and maritime music performed by Northwest musicians. Tickets are $50 per person. On Independence Day, Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain welcome visitors during the annual Aberdeen SPLASH festival, located along the Chehalis River at Morrison Riverfront Park. (The ships will remain at Aberdeen Landing.) SPLASH features free entertainment for children and adults, free inflatable rides, and performances by local and regional bands. Public tours of the ships are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Battle Sail is scheduled for 2 p.m., and a Fireworks Sail-featuring the evening community fireworks display-takes place from 9 p.m. to midnight. The ships depart for their annual Puget Sound tour on the evening of July 5. They return to Grays Harbor Sept. 18.
