Carnation, WA - The Rite Aid Foundation announced today a $12,000 grant to Camp Korey, a year-round camp located in Carnation, Washington for children with serious and life-altering medical conditions. The grant will be used to provide scholarships for children who would otherwise be unable to attend the camp. All Camp Korey programs are provided free of charge to families in order to insure that families who have already endured so much financial and emotional devastation are provided with equal access to the therapeutic recreation programs that they need. The Rite Aid Foundation previously awarded a $6,000 grant to Camp Korey in 2011. “Teaching these children how to live and manage their disease, providing information on the disease and promoting healthy lifestyles helps them to grow and reach their potential,” said Gayle Rife, Manager of The Rite Aid Foundation. “The Rite Aid Foundation is proud to provide this grant so that low-income children may attend the summer camp.” Camp Korey was founded in 2005 to honor Korey Rose who lost his battle with bone cancer at the age of 18. Camp Korey was started to create a safe haven for other families dealing with childhood illness and medical conditions. The summer camp caters to the needs of children with mitochondrial disease, craniofacial differences, solid organ transplants, skeletal dysplasia, sickle cell, autism and more.
