Since April 15, 2009 officers of the Hoquiam Police Department have investigated 19 vehicle prowl complaints. Sixteen of the vehicle prowls have taken place on the east side of Hoquiam in the area stretching from the Simpson Avenue Bridge to Myrtle Street. Six have occurred along Simpson Avenue, seven along Sumner Avenue and three on Beacon Hill. The remaining three occurred on the west side of Hoquiam. Although some of the vehicles have been unlocked the suspects(s) are using various means to gain entry into the vehicles. Several of the vehicles have had locks damaged to gain entry while others have had windows broken out. Most of the vehicles have been parked on private property rather than on the street during the break-ins.
The majority of these crimes have occurred between the hours of 9:00 PM and 8:00 AM. Stereos, wallets, identification, CD's and other items have been taken from the vehicles. This is an opportune time to remind Hoquiam residents to lock their vehicle and to call the non-emergency number to 911 (533-8765) if they see anyone that looks at all suspicious out near vehicles on in the alleys especially during the hours of darkness. Anyone who may have any information related to car prowls is asked to call Hoquiam detectives at 532-0892 Ext. 102 or 109. At the time of this release there are no known suspects and the investigation continues.
