Olympia, WA - The Department of Corrections announced two appointments in its Prisons Division. Scott Frakes, who has been the Superintendent at Monroe Correctional Complex since 2008, will serve as the Deputy Director of Prisons at headquarters and oversee six of the state’s 12 prisons. Robert Herzog, who has been an Associate Superintendent at Airway Heights Corrections Center near Spokane since 2004, will succeed Frakes as Superintendent at Monroe.
The appointments will take effect April 1. Both Scott and Rob are exceptional leaders with 30 years of experience in the Prisons Division, they bring the right set of skills to these important positions. - Prisons Director Dan Pacholke Frakes will lead the Prisons Division’s Command A, which includes Cedar Creek Corrections Center south of Olympia, Clallam Bay Corrections Center, Coyote Ridge Corrections Center near the Tri-Cities, Olympic Corrections Center near Forks, Stafford Creek Corrections Center near Aberdeen and the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla.
He will also oversee the Intensive Management Units, the highest-security level units in the state prison system.
Frakes joined the agency in 1982 as a Correctional Officer at the Washington State Penitentiary and worked his way up the ranks while working at six prisons.
Herzog will manage Monroe Correctional Complex, the state’s second-largest prison with more than 2,500 offenders and more than 1,100 staff members. Since joining the agency in 1982 he has worked at four prisons. He has spent much of his career at Washington Corrections Center near Shelton as a member and leader of the prison’s Special Emergency Response Team. He was eventually promoted to Deputy Superintendent at Clallam Bay Corrections Center before transferring to Airway Heights Corrections Center near Spokane.
