Hoquiam, WA - A Hoquiam resident helped officers track down a hit and run suspect by tackling the stranger in his yard. Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers tells us when he arrived at the scene near Olympic Stadium, he found an older model Toyota station wagon resting against the fire hydrant it had reportedly struck, the driver was missing.
Following up on eyewitness testimony, Myers and two other officers began to canvas the area when they found a homeowner holding their suspect to the ground in a nearby yard.
Myers said the suspect commented that he was "done drinking," and that it "wasn't worth it." as paramedics took a legal blood draw and the 23 year old Hoquiam man admitted to drinking before he got behind the wheel.
Myers added that The Hoquiam Police Department does not encourage citizens to put themselves at risk by taking action such as this, but commended the resident for recognizing what was happening and apprehended the suspect.
