South Bend, Washington – The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency (PCEMA) is offering a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course in Raymond. The course is scheduled as follows: March 23, 2012 – 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. March 24, 2012 – 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. March 31, 2012 – 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Simulation victim volunteers needed) The course will be held at the CrossRoads Church (707 Commercial Street, Raymond). Preregistration is encouraged. The CERT Program teaches disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact Pacific County and trains participants in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Courses are a total of 20 hours, spread over three days. The course is taught with classroom instruction for the first two sessions and practical exercises during the last session. Participants under the age of 18 must have parent/guardian permission to attend.
PCEMA is also seeking individuals interested in volunteering to play victims for CERT disaster simulations. Volunteers will be put into Moulage makeup to appear injured. Some may be asked to act out disaster scenarios. Volunteers must have parent/guardian permission to participate if they are under age 18.
