Govenor Christine Gregoire received a warm welcome yesterday at the Grays Harbor College Campus, where she signed details of the 520 floating bridge project into law.
The bill signed Wednesday by the governor approves construction and financing for the bridge replacement.
Gregoire said that estimates are that the construction phase of the project will provide close to 3000 good-paying jobs in Grays Harbor. Once completed, regardless of location, the pontoon construction site will build the bulk of the pontoons needed to replace the aging 520 floating bridge. Gregoire also said they intend to shop local for training their site workers State officials say the new bridge will cost an estimated 1.85 billion dollars, construction of the bridge itself is scheduled to begin in 2012.
