ABERDEEN, Wash. - How many people haven't sat down to a nice glass of distilled spirits and thought "I can make this." Owner of Wishkah River Distillery, Sue Watts said to a crowded room of members of the Washington Economic Development Commission yesterday, that's exactly what she did.
Watts said with a background in science and engineering, she wanted to start her own business on the harbor, and she needed a widget. Once she found that, over a glass of whiskey, she approached the Port of Grays Harbor, who just happened to be one of Washington's 13 Innovation Partnership Zones "Innovation Center actually ended up being a perfect fit for what I wanted. That's when we made the decision to lease from the Port and these guys were already in the process of getting the building going." The craft distillery opened their doors, and their tasting room, to State Representatives yesterday after a long day of touring Port facilities. Today the State EDC members will be touring the second half of Grays Harbor's IPZ, the Satsop Business Park.
