ABERDEEN, Wash. - Whether you call it global warming, cooling, or just climate change, building codes could be getting more stringent in Aberdeen due to a trend of rising sea levels "Larry's going to be meeting with FEMA, regarding elevation, when he gets that settled then there's some ordinances coming forward that will change some building codes but he wants to get the scoop from the feds before we move forward."
Councilman Tim Alstrom said that Public Works Director Larry Bledsoe will be meeting with state and federal officials to discuss the details. A recommendation to the council suggests the current standards for floor elevation be raised from 1.1 feet to 2 feet above the base flood elevation.
