Over 150 Citizens turned out to the to the Aberdeen Tea Party at Zelasko Park yesterday, voicing opinions on everything from taxes, to licensing fees, to immigration issues.
One resident, Norm Mitchell, explained his frustrations with health care in the united states (in the attached audio). The wife of the event's organizer, Marcy Cormier, gathered signatures in support of her son who is serving overseas (in the attached audio). While Tea Party demonstrators from Zelasko park, all the way to the Capitol steps yesterday said they had been taxed enough already, Washington lawmakers considered a sales tax increase. Majority Democrats are working on a three-year increase of three-tenths of a cent to pay for health care programs.
The state Department of Revenue estimates that a 0.3 percent increase in the state sales tax could raise
about $644 million during the next two-year budget cycle. A coalition of hospital and nursing groups has already started a campaign to push lawmakers to maintain funding for health care. Voters would make the final decision on the tax.
