Aberdeen High School Radio Station Takes Third

Gig Harbor, WA - KGHP from Peninsula High School took top honors in route to knocking off three-time state champion Nathan Hale at the Washington State High School Radio Awards held yesterday in Gig Harbor. Aberdeen High School’s KAHS radio station (106.5FM) collected many awards on their way to a third place overall finish in the fourth annual event. Students from all over the state submitted their best of works and were judged by professionals from industry professional throughout Washington State including KJET’s very own Johnny Manson.


Leading the way for the KAHS was the SkillsUSA National bound team made up of AHS senior Sierra Fenn and Bobcat sophomore Jenna Prater. Sierra was declared state champion in the “Best PSA Campaign Series” for her “Bullies Suck” public service announcements. Sierra also placed third in the “Best Underwirter Announcement.” Not to be outdone Jenna placed second in the “Best Sports Broadcasting” and third in the “Best Individual PSA” categories. Jenna and Sierra also team up for a few awards;  second place for “Best Radio Imagery” and third for “Best Public Affairs Program.” The KAHS also had a pair of silver medalists with Jake Blood, for “Best Jock Talk” and KAylal Shelton for “Best Radio Station Promos.”
