ABERDEEN, Wash. - Aberdeen High Schools Skills USA Team, returns from the state conference this past weekend with eight state medals including three state champions and over $4000 dollars in scholarships and prizes. Skills USA Advisor Chuck Veloni tells us the state champions qualify to compete at the national conference in Kansas City Missouri this June, as well as Aberdeen's third place Radio Broadcasting team.
Also, Aberdeen High Freshman Erika Nelson was re-elected as a state SkillsUSA officer for the 2011-2012 school year. Erika served this past year as the Olympic Region Representative. Also being elected as a SkillsUSA State Officer was Aberdeen Sophomore Jenna Prater. Jenna has served this past year as Aberdeen High School’s chapter Secretary.
Aberdeen Junior and current SkillsUSA State President, Karmen Ayres announced that she will be running as a National Officer Candidate this June in Kansas City. Karmen is hoping to follow fellow classmate Katie Grimnes (2010-2011 SkillsUSA National President) as the second Bobcat in as many years to serve the SkillsUSA National Team.

The Aberdeen High School Chapter of SkillsUSA will be hosting a Cowboy Bar-B-Que Wednesday May 18th in the commons at Aberdeen High School from 6PM to 8PM. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from any SkillsUSA member. The Aberdeen Chapter of SkillsUSA will be trying to raise $10,000 to send six students and two advisors to the national conference in Kansas City MO.
