OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will conduct two evening meetings for the public to learn and ask questions about a proposed exchange of state trust lands with the Green Crow timber company. In the proposal, known as the Foothills Exchange, DNR may trade up to 6,840 acres of trust land with Green Crow and may receive up to 9,351 acres of Green Crow property in return. The exchange is intended to consolidate State trust lands in Clallam, Jefferson and Mason counties. Consolidating state trust lands can help enhance access, improve land and natural resources management efficiency, and help DNR continue to meet wildlife habitat goals of its Habitat Conservation Plan.

DNR manages more than 5 million acres of state-owned forest, aquatic, agricultural, and conservation lands. State trust lands are managed to produce income for schools, universities, prisons, state mental hospitals, community colleges, local services in many counties, and the state’s general fund. State trust lands are also managed to provide fish and wildlife habitat, and educational and recreational opportunities.
