Olympia, WA - A $30 fee could get you access to land managed by one of three organizations if newly-proposed legislation goes through on capitol hill. The Washington State Parks Department, along with the state departments of Natural Resources (DNR) and Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced Wdnesday they are co-requesting legislation that will reform state land management
SB 5622 and a companion bill HB 1796, introduced in the house by Representative Kevin Van De Wege seek to introduce a 30 dollar annual fee to visit any of the states parks, DNR lands, or Fish and Wildlife Property.
"All of those public lands, there would be an allowance to access any of those lands with the purchase of one of these permits." Fish and Wildlife Director Phil Anderson explained this pass would also grant users access to state boat launches, and over 900 thousand acres of Fish and Wildlife land. Representative Van De Wege was unavailable for comment on the bill, Sponsor of the seante bill, State Senator Kevin Ranker said "We need to talk about not just how much our outdoor recreation services cost, but also how much it costs to loose them."
