The goal of the Convoy of Hope outreach is to reach out to Grays Harbor children and families by meeting some of their most basic needs. In addition to thousands of pounds of free groceries being distributed, guests can also take advantage of a health fair including medical, dental and optical screening; family photo portraits; haircuts; games and activities for children; and live entertainment. And it's all FREE!
"We are prepared to serve thousands of people" said local Convoy Coordinator Doug Marks. The Convoy of Hope estimate was 3,000 to 6,000.
Similar events around the nation have drawn crowds of 5,000 or more. Organizers estimate that approximately 500 local volunteers will be required to successfully staff such a large one-day event. A volunteer rally is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16 at the D&R Theatre in Aberdeen.
