The Hoquiam City Council last night approved an ammendment to a city ordinance that allows the Washington State Department of Transportation to work overnights, when they conduct paving operations on US HWY 101 and State Route 109 this coming summer and fall. Previous city code that prohibits public noise caused by outdoor construction between 8pm and 7am will be temporarily suspended so that DOT crews may work between 6pm and 6am, releving the impact on daytime traffic in the workzones.

City Administrator Brian Shay explained that the construction should take about 2 months.
