Posted by David Haviland on June 18, 2009 at 9:30 am (542 social interactions)

Aberdeen- Grays Harbor PUD crews responded to two power outages last night and early this morning impacting approximately 1,100 customers in the Hoquiam area and approximately 200 customers in the Elma area.

A vehicle striking a pole at 9:42pm last night in the 100 block of Endresen in the Hoquiam area caused the outage impacting about 1,100 customers.  The power was restored to most customers by 11:03pm. Power was restored to the remaining customers at 3:32am.

A power line down at Sund Road and Delezenne Road in the Elma area was the cause of an outage impacting about 200 customers at 1:14am. Power was restored at 6:07am. There was no indication what caused the wire to come down.

Mason County Sheriff's Office To Purchase Mobile Data Terminals

Posted by David Haviland on June 18, 2009 at 5:43 am (547 social interactions)

Shelton, WA - As previously announced in the Sheriff's press release dated April 29, 2009, the Mason County Sheriff's Office was allotted $77,445 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG).

The uncertainty of the current budget revenue streams for the Sheriff's Office made a decision as to the best use of these funds difficult at best.  However, in a review of the Department's operations, Sheriff Salisbury has determined that an initial purchase of 12 mobile data terminals (MDTs) and 15 software licenses along with applicable hardware for installation in Deputies' patrol vehicles would be a solid investment.  This will not provide every vehicle with their own MDT but most vehicles will be outfitted with the mounts so that units may be transferred at the end of a shift.

Warm, Dry Weather May Fuel a Big Fire Season

Posted by David Haviland on June 18, 2009 at 5:30 am (434 social interactions)

SEATTLE - Ample moisture and cooler temperatures for Alaska and Pacific Northwest states may keep 2009 fire potential in normal ranges, but after multiple weeks of warm weather, fuel supplies are drying out. Persistent drought conditions may well drive significant wildfire risk for north-central Washington, and the recent near-record spring dry spell is boosting fire risk in western Washington as well. FEMA Acting Regional Administrator Dennis Hunsinger encourages residents living on wooded lots and wildland/urban interface areas to stay informed on local conditions and take steps now-clearing brush and creating defensible perimeters around their homes.

To her, the Albatross was always your home away from home. They are still supporting two children, one a freshman in college, the other a sophomore in high school.
