Community Tailgate Produce sale!

Are the beans and squash threatening to take over the entire neighborhood?  Have your friends and relatives gone into hiding when they see you approaching with yet another giant zucchini?

The Hoquiam Farmers Market has a solution to your too-much-of-a-good-thing problem; On Saturday, Aug. 29th the public is invited to bring their homegrown garden produce to The Market to sell! This is a free of charge chance for the gardeners to hook up with buyers!  Decide upon your prices and share your produce excess in an old-fashioned parking lot tailgate sale!  

If you have garden goodies (vegetables, fruit, or flowers) to sell, we want to help.  Simply show up on Saturday the 29th, we’re open from 9 until6.

The Market is always looking for sources of fresh local food products, so if you have goodies available right now today, give us a call at 538-9747

Bomb Threat in Westport Shuts Down Shipyard

The Westport Shipyard evacuated their Westport Structures this morning, due to a bomb threat


The Hoquiam Office confirms the the Wesport office sent most of the employees home for the day, some administrative staff remained until the threat was assessed by the Westport police department.

Chief William Gibson told us "all the buildings have been gone through, nothing was found, at this point it doesn't appear to be a credible report... you take these things seriously"

The Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad was notifiedshortly after the bomb threat was discovered this morning, written on one of the stalls in a men's restroom.


The Hoquiam Shipyard remains open on their regular schedule, the Westport yard will remain closed overnight.

BPA plans meetings on coho reintroduction

Portland, Ore. - The Bonneville Power Administration will hold two open-house-style public meetings in Leavenworth, Wash., and Twisp, Wash., this week as an initial step in preparing an environmental impact statement to assess the reintroduction of coho salmon into tributaries of the Columbia River in Chelan and Okanogan counties, Wash.


The first scoping meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Aug., 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Chelan Fire District 3, Community Center, 228 Chumstick Hwy., Leavenworth, Wash., 98826.


The second meeting will be Friday, Aug. 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Methow Valley Community Center, 201 South Methow Valley Hwy., Twisp., Wash., 98856.

Local Revitalization Financing Project Application Now Online

Olympia, WA - The Department of Revenue today activated an online application that cities and counties must use to apply, on a first-come, first-served basis, for $2.5 million in state money to help finance Local Revitalization Financing (LRF) projects.

While local governments can begin filling out applications beginning today, they will not be able to press the submit button until 9 a.m. Sept. 1.  The Department will then accept completed applications in the order received.

Second Substitute Bill 5045 authorizes cities and counties to create revitalization areas for local public improvements and allows the state to contribute toward the bond payments.

Cougar Sighting in Ocean Shores

On August 17th at approximately 8PM Ocean Shores Police responded to a cougar sighting on the Weatherwax Property near Ocean Shores Elementary School. Officers observed the cougar just northeast of the fence line of the elementary school on the Weatherwax Property. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was advised of the sighting and will be responding to place snare traps in the area. The traps that will be set are designed to be non lethal and the goal is to relocate the cougar once captured.
