Tumwater, WA – The Longview office of the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is relocating to a state-owned office building at 711 Vine St. in Kelso.

The office will be closed Friday, Sept. 25, and will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, in the Kelso location. The one-day closure will allow for the transfer and reconfiguration of computer and other technical equipment. Office hours and telephone numbers will remain the same.

L&I is moving because of a state goal to use space in state-owned buildings wherever possible. With the expiration of the Longview office lease, L&I was able to move to a space in Kelso previously occupied by WorkSource.

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire strengthened the state’s salmon-protection partnership with federal agencies Wednesday by signing a major agreement that will accelerate habitat protection and restoration in the Columbia River estuary.

The agreement between Washington and three agencies – the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bonneville Power Administration and Bureau of Reclamation -- provides an additional $40.5 million for habitat restoration actions throughout the estuary. The pact reinforces the federal commitment behind a biological opinion for the operation of Columbia and Snake River hydroelectric dams, enhanced and endorsed by the Obama administration on Tuesday.

Posted by David Haviland on September 16, 2009 at 9:28 am (686 social interactions)

Hoquiam, WA - The Hoquiam Police Department is investigating a series of suspicious fires as arson. Seargent Steve Fretts tells us in each instance the fires were started with nearby fuel, and in one instance the fire could have been far worse."They started a fire on top of a gas main in the alley behind Fred's Towing the other night, then last night they tried to light the beauty bark on fire in front of Twin County Credit Union."

Since August 12, Police and Fire officials have responded to four suspicious fires in the area of Ontario and Simpson. All fires have started in the late night, early morning hours. Surveillence video has shown possibly two individuals on bikes in the area of one fire set in an alley a couple nights ago. All fires have been started with available materials and so far, little damage has been reported. Investigators are concerned as this seems to be escalating . If you observe any suspicious persons or have information, please call the Hoquiam Police Dept. at 532-0892 ext 102. Please call 911 if you see suspicious activity in this area.

Hoquiam, WA - Hoquiam Police are warning of recent residential burglaries that seem to be targetting high-end electronics Seargent Steve Fretts said items stolen include large flat-screen TV's "it's stuff that they wouldn't be able to easily come in and out of a house with"

the burglaries appear to be during times when the suspects know the residents would not be home, and it appears the targets are opportunistic, Fretts reminds residents to always lock their windows and doors when they leave, and not take chances "it's a little bit better to have your house warm when you come home, than it is to come home to an empty house."

One house was broken into in the 400 block of Emerson during logger's playday, another on Riverside Avenue two nights ago.

The Hoquiam Police Department is asking that if you observe any suspicious activity, to contact Seeargent Steve Fretts at 532-0892, extension 102 - if you see a crime in progress you should call 911
