Moore Floor Coverings Fire Classified as Undertermined in Origin

Posted by David Haviland on November 3, 2009 at 6:50 pm (945 social interactions)

Aberdeen, WA - Investigators may never know the cause, and origin, to the blaze that destroyed the Moore Floor Coverings building. Battallion Chief Bill Mayne told KBKW that scene processing mostly wrapped up yesterday with heavy equipment supporting a questionable wall "once they got inside to do their interior work, that allowed the heavy equipment that was there overnight, to go ahead and finish knocking over some of the wall structure that was causing us concern."

Mayne said that crews recovered some item that survived the fire today, then the three remaining walls facing State, I, and Heron street will be taken down.

The three-alarm fire at 301 I street in downtown Aberdeen burned for several hours, it's investigation has been hindered for days due to the structural damage, which has been estimated at over 2 million in damages.

Aberdeen, WA - The Grays Harbor Public Utility District (PUD) has learned it has been awarded about $63.3 million in federal Clean Renewable Energy Bonds (CREBs) to help finance construction of the Radar Ridge Wind Project, slated to be the first large-scale wind project in Western Washington.

“This is very good news,” said PUD Commission Vice-President Truman Seely. “These low interest bonds will save our ratepayers about $19 million in financing costs as we work to bring this project to market.”

In addition to Grays Harbor, other Radar Ridge partners who received CREBs are Clallam County PUD No. 1 ($19 million) and Pacific County PUD ($27 million). Also participating in the project is Mason No. 3, in conjunction with Energy Northwest. Grays Harbor has committed to a 49% share of the Radar Ridge wind farm project to be located in Pacific County.

Moore Floor Coverings Preliminary Estimate: 2.7 Million Lost

Posted by David Haviland on November 2, 2009 at 3:30 am (805 social interactions)

Moore Floor Coverings FireAberdeen, WA - On Friday officials with the building owner’s insurance company and investigators with the Aberdeen Fire Department were able to make a preliminary assessment of the interior of the fire building.  A structural engineer has completed a preliminary determination of the structural conditions and investigators were able to get inside for an overall general assessment and photographs.  There are however numerous areas still inaccessible within the building that require scene processing.

The structural engineer and representatives from the building owner’s insurance company have advised the fire department that I street and State street could be opened up and should not be a concern for public safety.  We will continue the perimeter fencing around the building to keep the building secure.  Within the next week the insurance company will advise and update on the status of either building stabilization or demolition.

The estimate for dollar loss is 2.7 million (2.2 for structure and $500 for contents).

Anyone with eyewitness information that may help the investigation is urged to call the Aberdeen Fire Department at 360 532-1254
