Hoquiam, WA - At about 7:10 pm on Wednesday November 4, 2009 Hoquiam police were notified by dispatch of a recklessly driven vehicle eastbound on Simpson Avenue from 30th Street. A witness provided the dispatcher with an update that the vehicle had turned to southbound on Myrtle and had stopped in the parking lot at the Grocery Outlet, in Aberdeen. The vehicle was described as a blue Chevy pick-up.

Sgt. Krohn responded to the area and saw the vehicle leave the parking lot and drive onto Myrtle Street. Krohn followed the pick-up at it traveled northbound on Myrtle and watched it turn to westbound on Sumner Avenue, in Hoquiam.

As the pick-up traveled along Sumner the driver changed lanes without using the turn signal and then ran the right light at the intersection of 30th Street. Krohn turned on the emergency lights of the patrol car in an attempt to stop the driver but the vehicle continued along Sumner Avenue at about 35 mph. As the vehicle turned onto Riverside Avenue it accelerated to about 40 mph. The driver continued along the length of Riverside ignoring the emergency lights on the patrol car.

Posted by David Haviland on November 5, 2009 at 11:23 am (805 social interactions)

Grays Harbor County - The National Weather Service has issued a Storm Warning for the Grays Harbor Coast. Winds of 48-63 knots (55-72 MPH) are imminent or occurring. According to the Beaufort Wind Scale, winds at 55-63 MPH can uproot whole trees and cause considerable structural damage. This Warning is in effect until 3pm today.

High surf is developing along the coastal beaches. Very large swell waves of 25 feet or more will reach the coastal waters Friday morning into Saturday. Currently, swells of 13 feet are occurring. Wind waves are 8-12 feet and coming ashore every 8—12 seconds

Anyone who is participating in the clam dig this evening in Twin Harbors should be extremely cautious for waves running up the beach. Do not be complacent during a lull between large waves. Waves of this size are very powerful and can easily sweep someone out to sea if they venture too close or get caught in a wave run.

Hoquiam, WA - Hoquiam Police have cited an Aberdeen woman for calling in a Bomb Threat to what turned out to be her own employer.

just after noon Tuesday officers were called to the Pacific Care Center on Cherry Street to the report of a bomb threat, the person taking the call said that a woman attempting to disguise her voice as a man had called in the bomb threat and then stayed on the line with them as they began to go through the facility's policy manual on how to deal with the situation. The caller began to laugh after some time, and was recognized by the call taker as a fellow employee.

Hoquiam Officers contacted the Aberdeen woman requesting she come to the Hoquiam Police Department for an interview, when she did she was cited for an Unnecessary Emergency Response, a misdemeanor. The woman said that she and the fellow employee often quiz each other on policies while they are working together and that was what she was trying to do.

South Bend, Washington – The National Weather Service, Portland Office notified the Pacific County Emergency Management Agency of potential weather hazards that may affect the coastal areas over the next 24 hours.

At this time, no rivers in Grays Harbor County are under a flood watch

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from Noon to 4:00 p.m. PST Thursday.  A Coastal Flood Advisory means that there may be minor tidal overflow along low lying sections of the southwest coast, including the City of Raymond.

A high tide of 10.3 feet with an anomaly of approximately one foot will bring the high tide level to 11.1 feet on Thursday afternoon.  This may result in the closure of lanes of State Route 101, in the central Raymond area.  The National Weather Service indicated that minor flooding is expected near the city.

Tides will be lower at subsequent high tides.  Residents should consult local tide tables for times and heights within their community.

This event will likely be accompanied by a Pacific frontal system with high winds increasing Thursday morning through Thursday evening.  The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch indicating that Thursday morning winds will shift to the south with sustained winds increasing to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph.  Gusts to 60 mph are possible on the beaches and headlands from mid-morning Thursday, peaking Thursday afternoon as the front approaches landfall.
