ELMA, Wash. - Nearly 900 people gathered on Sunday, November 7, 2010 in the Elma Washington Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a new Stake Presidency was installed. The new president of the religious organization is Montesano resident, Russell M. Larsen, a dentist and co-owner of Broadway Dental Center. Chosen as his counselors were Shelton resident Dan Cochran and Anthony F. Salas, Jr. of Aberdeen. Dr. Larsen and his wife Kay Lynn are the parents of four children, Kristy, Lindsey, Jared and Jacob. Jacob Larsen is a senior at Montesano High School; his older brother Jared is in Nicaragua serving as a missionary for the Church. The Larsen’s daughters are married and live out of state; there are four grandchildren in the extended family. “Being a husband and grandfather is my greatest joy and first priority in my life,“ states Larsen, who also enjoys waterskiing, hiking and running.

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Two human cases of West Nile virus infection have been reported for the 2010 season. A Grant County resident likely acquired the illness in the state and a Chelan County resident was infected while traveling out of state. The Grant County resident is a woman in her 70s who experienced several symptoms of West Nile virus and is not currently hospitalized. The Chelan County woman in her 40s traveled to Colorado and was exposed in that state. She has since recovered. This is a big difference compared to the 2009 season when nearly 40 people were reported as cases and the state’s first death from the virus was confirmed in a Yakima County resident.

COSMOPOLIS, Wash. - Job applications are now being accepted at Cosmo Specialty Fibers, Inc., an affiliate of The Gores Group, CEO Michael Entz announced today. “Mill restoration has proceeded to the point where we are ready to fulfill the promise of approximately 150 new jobs with this process. We are accepting applications through our web site www.cosmospecialtyfibers.com where we are posting the whole range of positions available at the mill.” Entz explained that the hiring process will continue until all the jobs are filled and encouraged anyone who had dropped off a resume or visited the mill over the past few months for hiring information to apply on-line. “We expect a high level of interest in these positions and the most efficient way we can offer jobs, and hire the right people into the right positions, is through the on-line process. For the number of applications we expect, the ability to answer phone calls or serve individuals in person at the mill will not be possible.” Cosmo Specialty Fibers, Entz explained, is building a dynamic, new team for success and industry leadership and is actively seeking qualified and experienced candidates who are team players, entrepreneurial thinkers and highly motivated to fill a range of positions.
