NOAA’s National Weather Service will conduct a communications test of the tsunami warning system in the coastal areas of California, Oregon and Washington on Wednesday, September 16, between 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. PDT.
The West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center, located in Palmer, Alaska, will broadcast a special test tsunami warning message that will be clearly labeled as a test. Upon receipt of the test message, National Weather Service offices responsible for western coastal areas will broadcast a brief test message via NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards. The test also will be transmitted over the Emergency Alert System using the required monthly test code.

People listening to NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards should hear the familiar alerting tone followed by an audio message describing the test, similar to the routine monthly tests of the Emergency Alert System.
If there is excessive seismic activity on the day of the test, it will be cancelled. Officials will evaluate the success of the test and correct any problems that are identified.
