Fingerprints Identify Suspect in Hoquiam Vehicle Theft

HOQUIAM, Wash. - Back on Tuesday April 27, 2009 at about 11:25 pm a Hoquiam officer saw a white Nissan Sentra parked behind the Grizzly Den in the 300 block of W. Emerson after the restaurant had closed. The officer found the vehicle unoccupied but a records check on the license plate number revealed that the Nissan had been stolen in Aberdeen.

Sergeant Joe Strong arrived on the scene to help process the car for possible evidence and latent fingerprints. Sgt. Strong lifted several latent prints from the interior of the vehicle and submitted them to the Washington State Patrol’s Identification for possible identification. Recently Sgt. Strong received a report from the WSP Identification Section stating that a positive identification had been made. Through the use of the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) one of the latent lifts was identified as being the left the left thumb impression of a 19 year old Aberdeen woman.

After receiving the fingerprint report Sgt. Strong contacted the victim of the vehicle theft to determine if the suspect was known to him. The victim did not know the person identified as the suspect. A report will be forwarded to the Grays Harbor County Prosecutor’s Office requesting that the suspect be charged with Possession of Stolen Property.
