Hoquiam Police Department Warns of Suspicious Activites

Posted by David Haviland on August 20, 2009 at 9:36 am (698 social interactions)

Hoquiam, WA - During the past several weeks the Hoquiam Police Department has received 3 complaints in which girls have been approached on the street by an older male. In two of the incidents, in the 600 block of Perry Avenue, the man has approached the same 9 year old girl and attempted to give her cheap gifts.  Thus far the man has not asked the females to go anywhere with him nor has he attempted to molest them.

Officers have identified the man as a 54 year old Indian male who lives in the vicinity of Perry   He is approximately 5’9 165# with brown eyes and black hair. When he has approached the girls he has been on foot and once he was riding a bicycle. The man has been warned to stay away from any girl he sees on the street or elsewhere. This man has not committed a crime that we are aware of at this time.

Two of the contacts have taken place this week on Perry Avenue. One contact took place at 3:00 in the afternoon and the other on the evening of Wednesday 8/19/09.

The Hoquiam Police Department said "We are releasing this information to advise the public of this suspicious activity. We are also asking that anyone who sees a male approaching girls to call the E-911 Communications Center at 533-8765 to report the incident. "

With the new school year fast approaching this is an opportune time for parents to have a talk with their children regarding personal safety issues and specifically what to do when approached by a stranger.
