Aberdeen Police Department Gets a "Car Seat Technician"

Officer Jeff Weiss of the Aberdeen Police Department recently attended training to be a Child Protection Seat Technician in Hillsboro, Oregon.  Officer Weiss became nationally certified through Safe Kids as a car seat technician.   This certification enable's Officer Weiss to install car seats, check installed car seats for any possible misuse, and evaluate children as to what level of protection they require . The training was a part of a grant funded by the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission.

As a technician Officer Weiss will be a resource for fellow officers in any child passenger issues, participate in regular car seat check clinics, and serve as team leader for the child passenger team.  The Child Passenger team is comprised of 16 officers, deputies, and troopers in Grays Harbor County.  The team is invovled in a pilot program and will be conducting emphasis patrols next month ensurring children in Grays Harbor are properly restrained. The fine for an unrestrained child or misused child seat is $124.00.
