ABERDEEN, Wash. - Traffic emphasis patrols netted 11 stops in just 35 minutes in front of A.J. West Elementary on Wednesday. Police Captain John Green tells us between 8 and 8:35 A.M., the Aberdeen Police Department conducted a traffic emphasis on Bay Street, in front of the school.
The emphasis was a result of information the department received from citizens during the recent community meetings. The concern expressed to the department was for the safety of children who were walk to school. Community members specifically expressed a concern about motorists running through stop signs in the area around the school.
The 35 minute traffic emphasis this morning resulted in 11 traffic stops which resulted in the issuing of 3 traffic infractions and one traffic citation. One of the infractions was a parking violation for being too close to a crosswalk. Two infractions were for failing to stop at a stop sign. The citation was for driving while suspended. The other eight stops resulted in verbal warnings.
The Aberdeen Police Department is asking the motoring public to drive safely at all times. Special care should be demonstrated around all the area schools.
With Halloween night just around the corner this is a good time for the Aberdeen Police Department to remind the public to drive safely in our neighborhoods as many people will be out trick or treating.
It is expected that additional traffic enforcement emphasis details will be occurring in the future. A second traffic emphasis is planned for the area of A.J. West tomorrow on 10/31/13.
