MONTESANO, Wash. - The results of yesterday's test of the Grays Harbor County Emergency Notification System were released this morning, Chuck Wallace with the emergency management agency tells us it made 6000 phone calls in under 30 minutes. It also confirmed email and text messages in under 5 minutes yesterday as the test was accomplished extremely fast with very little issues slowing the process. The problem contacts are being isolated and we will work to correct them.
The Grays Harbor County Emergency Notification System uses Teleira Resilient Communications (previously known as Telecom Recovery). They have been outstanding to work with and many of the county police and fire departments use our system for call outs during emergency incidents in their specific jurisdictions.
To put things in perspective, in 2009, the notification system for the county sent 1000 messages and it took over 5 hours to complete. The old system was not designed to be used for tsunami notification (This warning came from the company). The cost was in the tens of thousands of dollars per year.
Teleira costs less than $3,600 per year to operate, is far quicker and provides us with texting capability which was NOT available with our previous provider. This is a win/win situation for the county and all citizens. Cost savings, efficiency and speed.
