IRONWORKER KILLED AT MICROSOFT IDENTIFIED

Posted by David Haviland on February 23, 2009 at 10:01 am (795 social interactions)

An ironworker who was fatally injured on the Microsoft campus in Redmond on Thursday has been identified by his family as a 23-year-old Hoquiam man. Carrie Beutel, also of Hoquiam, says her brother, Randy Beutel, was a 2004 graduate of Hoquiam High School who had worked in construction for about two years. She said her brother was single. Emergency workers said Beutel died when thousands of pounds of rebar collapsed on him. He was working on a below-ground parking garage, which is intended to have an office building on top of it. Beutel was employed by Auburn-based RPM Steel, a subcontractor to Turner Construction. The state Department of Labor and Industries is investigating the accident. Microsoft recently had announced it plans to temporarily halt the project once it reaches the ground level because of the downturn in the economy.
