ABERDEEN, Wash. - A black bear and her cub alluded capture in North Aberdeen Thursday morning. Police received multiple sightings from B street to 5th avenue around 11:30. Signs of recent activity were also found along Baila Way, and near the Aberdeen water supply.
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife agents from Montesano were called in, along with Aberdeen Animal Control, while police secured the area of the last sighting. Neighbor Wayne Phelps was looking to get a good picture, "I came walking up here with a camera, trying to get pictures if I see the bear. It came crashing down the hillside right here and stopped right next to the morning glory. So they're walking up and trying to chase then out now."
Police Captain John Green tells us Robert Gray Elementary was contacted for a lockdown, but after the pair disappeared the lockdown was cancelled.
