BELFAIR, Wash. - After more than a month at large, a man wanted in the investigation of a Belfair bank robbery is in custody today. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jesse Lee Mathes on On July 7, 2013. Detective Will Adam tells us Mathes was wanted for investigation of an armed robbery in the Belfair area on June 6, 2013. An active search for Mathes began at that time and over the last month, Mathes continued to elude capture.
Over this past weekend, Deputies from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office along with the Special Weapons and Tactics team conducted an extensive search in the Belfair area for Mathes.
On July 7, 2013, Patrol Deputies observed Mathes driving a stolen vehicle on Hwy. 3 in Belfair and attempted to stop Mathes, but Mathes failed to stop. The pursuit was initiated and Mathes was finally stopped in Kitsap County.
Mathes is listed in custody at the Mason County jail on charges that include 2 counts of armed robbery with a firearm, 3 vehicle theft and felony eluding.
Adam said an investigation into further crimes that Mathes is suspected of committing will continue.
