JC Penney to Close Aberdeen Location

Aberdeen, WA - Employees at the Aberdeen J.C. Penney store were notified this morning that the SouthShore Mall location will be closing it's doors in early August. Media Relations Manager Joey Thomas said in a statement "Each year, we evaluate our store portfolio to determine whether there’s a need to close or relocate underperforming stores. Reviews such as these are essential in meeting our long-term goals for future company growth. While it’s never an easy decision to close a store, especially due to the impact on our valued team members and customers, we would not have moved forward with this difficult decision if we did not believe it was absolutely necessary." SouthShore Mall Manager Jamie Walsh  did not want to comment on the matter until she heard from local management.

A source tells KBKW that employees were notified today of the closure, J.C. Penney Co. announced in January the plans to close 47 stores, and cut over 5,000 positions nationwide to return to profitability.
