GRAYLAND, Wash. - Two suspects are in custody following the robbery of the Westport Y Deli Monday night. Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate with the county Sheriff's Department tells us the arrest occurred Tuesday at approximately 3:30 pm. At that time, the Pacific County Sheriff’s Department was assisting the Washington State Department of Corrections in locating a particular male DOC offender for outstanding warrants. While in the area of SR 105 of Grayland, just inside Pacific County, the officers observed a blue colored Volkswagon Passat traveling southbound. Inside the vehicle, the officers recognized the DOC offender that they had been attempting to locate. The officers stopped the vehicle and contacted the DOC offender who was a 24 year old transient from the Aberdeen area. He was subsequently arrested. During the course of the search, the DOC officer located a loaded .22 caliber pistol, in addition to a bandana and sunglasses. Based on the description of the vehicle, and the items found in the vehicle, the officers on scene believed the suspect could be involved with the armed robbery that occurred in Grays Harbor County.
Detectives with the Sheriff's Department responded to the location of the traffic stop and contacted the DOC offender. He was eventually arrested for the Robbery and transported to Grays Harbor County Jail where he was booked for 1st degree Robbery. The suspect’s girlfriend, a 20 year old female from Grayland, was later located and also arrested for being involved with the robbery. It was believed that the female was the driver of the vehicle at the time the robbery was committed. She was also booked for 1st degree robbery.
