South Bend, WA – As a part of a National Day of Service, AmeriCorps Members Lea Reuss and Kirsten Harvill will be promoting their AmeriCorps projects on Monday, January 21st from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Dennis Company in both Long Beach and Raymond. Kirsten and Lea serve with the Pacific County Emergency Management Agency and have projects geared at disaster preparedness public education and volunteer coordination for tsunami debris cleanup. In 1994 Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday as a national day of service. The MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service; AmeriCorps Members view it as a “day on, not a day off.” The MLK Day of Service is a way to transform the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and teachings into community action that helps solve social problems. During this holiday, many AmeriCorps and community members organize projects designed to give back and strengthen their communities.
