Two Injured in Aberdeen House Fire

Posted by David Haviland on December 5, 2012 at 3:44 pm (747 social interactions)

700 Block of 4th Street in AberdeenAberdeen, WA - Two tenants were injured when jumping out of the third story window of a burning home in Aberdeen Wednesday. Aberdeen Fire Chief Tom Hubbard tells us the structure fire blocked eastbound State Route 101 for a couple of hours to feed fire engines from Aberdeen, Hoquiam and Cosmopolis keeping a house fire contained to the three story home in the 700 Block of 4th Street in Aberdeen. Hubbard said a mother and five children escaped from the bottom apartment unharmed when the mother awoke from a nap and noticed smoke.

Two others, living on the third story were unable to exit because of the smoke, and jumped out of a third story window. Hubbard said both were transported from the scene, one woman with critical injuries, another man with other non-critical injuries.

Eastbound traffic was diverted to Division street from Park street for hours this afternoon, Westbound 101 was also narrowed to the right lane. Hubbard said a cause of the fire has not been determined, noting that in some cases the construction type makes it difficult to tell origin of a fire that can spread through "balloon framing" quickly.
