Cosmopolis Approves Garbage Rate Increases, and Service Changes

COSMOPOLIS, Wash. - The city of Cosmopolis is looking at some changes to their garbage rates, and service. Mayor Vickie Raines exemplified the highest increase possible at this week's city council meeting; "Someone who has a 65 gallon tote with weekly service, they are currently paying $26.48 and that's going to go up a dollar-forty, to $27.88."
Public Works Director Darrin Raines said the city would also like to move all garbage service to the streets; "Everybody has their tote in the alley, but the new trucks are bigger [and] the alleys are only ten-foot wide. It's getting harder to get those trucks through the alleys. It is [also] very expensive to keep the alleys maintained during the winter months.”
Manager Paul Dionne said LeMay would take care of notifying residents about the pickup changes, along with the new rates, both are expected to take effect January first.
