Traffic Enforcement Emphasis in Ocean Shores, Funded by Safe Routes to School Grant

Ocean Shores, WA - The Ocean Shores Police Department, in conjunction with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office, will begin conducting a high visibility traffic enforcement emphasis as a result of funding from the Washington State Department of Transportation.  The Safe Routes to School Program grant that was awarded to the City of Ocean Shores allowed for sidewalk and walk path creation and improvements along with additional traffic safety lighting and markings for routes to Ocean Shores Elementary School and North Beach Junior High School. Additional components of the grant are education and enforcement. Ocean Shores Police have conducted bicycle safety rodeo and education programs from this grant and purchased bicycle helmets for students.

The enforcement aspect of this grant will begin November 1, 2012 and continue throughout the 2012-2013 school year. The areas of concentration will be the school zones for both schools, as well as roadways commonly used for traveling to and from the schools and the roadways around the schools. Funding for officers and deputies participating in this emphasis will be paid entirely from the Safe Routes to School Grant.
