USPO to Celebrate 50th Village Post Office

Copalis Crossing, WA - The United States Postal Service will hold a grand opening ceremony for a Village Post Office (VPO) at the Voss Acres Produce Market, 1683 Ocean Beach Rd., Copalis Crossing, at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 31.

This will be the 50th VPO the Postal Service has opened in the U.S.  The first one was in Malone WA which opened in August 2011.  There are two others in Washington State – one in Steptoe and another outside Ferndale.

VPOs are located in non-Postal Service establishments – such as an existing community business, town hall or government center.  VPOs provide a range of limited postal services that includes the sale of First-Class (Forever) stamp booklets, free Priority Mail flat-rate supplies, prepaid Priority Mail Flat Rate products, and pre-paid mail acceptance.

The VPO at Voss Acres will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.  Store owners are Sharon and Steve Voss.

“In the late 1800s the post office was located in the house which is next to our market,” Sharon Voss said.  “Opening the VPO is a return to history.  We are very honored to be able to carry on the postal tradition in the community.”

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
