Lakewood Man Surrenders to Hoquiam Officers After Long Drive, Short Swim

Posted by David Haviland on July 14, 2012 at 8:30 am (589 social interactions)

Hoquiam, WA - A high speed chase through Grays Harbor took officers the wrong way down one way streets, one way bridges, and ended with a brisk swim in the harbor.
Hoquiam K9 officer Jeff Salstrom tells us reports started coming in around 8:45 last night that a black subaru forester was driving West in the Eastbound lanes of Highway 12 in Montesano, then in Central Park.

A Hoquiam officer clocked the vehicle at 50 in a 30 near Myrtle street before pulling it over. Salstrom said the driver waited until that officer was at his window before speeding off.

The vehicle drove the wrong way over the Simpson Avenue bridge in Hoquiam before turning down 8th street and heading toward Bowerman Airfield. Salstrom said speeds reached 60 miles per hour on Airport Way before the suspect bailed out at the end of Moon Island road and swam 20 yards into the Harbor. When Salstrom warned that he would release K9 Enno, the suspect swam back and surrendered.
The 32 year old Lakewood man was taken into custody on multiple charges, Salstrom said he has a long criminal history with the Pierce County Sheriffs Office.
