Simpson Avenue Bridge to Close 4 Weeks to Wrap Repairs

Hoquiam, WA - The Simpson Avenue Bridge in Hoquiam will close sometime after Labor Day to accommodate the final phase of foundation repairs.
Lisa Copeland with the Washington State Department of Transportation tells us the winning bidder, Bergeson Construction, plans to start onsite work around mid to late June, with a 4-week closure expected some time after the Labor Day weekend in September "We'll use the Riverside bridge and Sumner Avenue to maintain traffic in both directions."
Detour RouteCopeland said exact dates will be picked for the closure after Bergeson releases a final schedule for the $4.2-million project later this week.
WSDOT Region Administrator Kevin Dayton said the Pier 2 Stabilization project will wrap up repairs on the historic span "That will be the last piece of that whole scour repair. That's on Pier 2, we talked about doing Pier 3, there's no indication that Pier 3 had been undermined or compromised so right now everything's fine."
